Where does the money that’s raised go?
Lexington Habitat for Humanity has served more than 400 families locally and 325 families internationally through affordable homeownership since 1986. Lexington Habitat is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope.
Lexington Habitat is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.
Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.
What kind of weather can I expect?
The average high for mid-March in Lexington is 55 degrees and the average low is 36 degrees. The average rainfall for the month of March is 4 inches. Follow us on the Shamrock Shuffle 3K Facebook page to stay up-to-date on weather expectations for the race.
Can spectators watch the start and/or finish of the race?
Yes. However, spectators need to remain on the sidewalks at all times and out of the racecourse. This helps ensure the safety of race participants. The start of the race can be viewed from the sidewalks near the corner of Vine Street and Upper Street and the finish can be viewed from the sidewalks on the corner of Upper Street and Main Street in front of the old Courthouse. Your cooperation is appreciated.
Where can I park for the race?
PLEASE NOTE: Parking in Lexington Convention Center lots will be $15 per car beginning at 6 a.m. for the 2017 race due to other events on property on race day. Parking is available on a first-come, first-serve basis in the Lexington Center parking lot off of High Street in Lots B, C, D and the Maxwell Street lot accessible through Gate 1 off High Street only. Overflow parking is available in the Manchester Street lot off Oliver Lewis Way and Manchester Streets. Again, parking is $15 per car at each of these locations.
Street parking is also available in downtown Lexington, along with other parking garage options throughout the city.
Will there be water along the race course?
No. Due to the short distance of the race, water and other refreshments will only be available at the finish of the race under the Fifth Third Bank Pavilion at Cheapside Park.
Will restroom facilities be available?
Yes. Public restrooms are located inside the Lexington Center (near the elevators on Level 1). After the race you are welcome to use the portable facilities at Lexington’s Irish Festival located at Cheapside Park. Thank you to the Irish Festival for accommodating our runners! You are also welcome to use the facilities back inside the Lexington Center after the race.
How do I sign up a team?
A special Team award will be presented to the Top 3 Male Teams, Top 3 Female Teams and Top 3 Co-Ed Teams based on time. There will also be team awards for the Best Team Costume, the Largest Team (team with the most members), and Best Team Name (please keep them clean – this is a family friendly event).
Teams consist of at least 3 people, with only the fastest three times on each team contributing to the team score. To register your team of family, friends, co-workers, etc., just choose a team name and when each person on that team registers, please enter the same team name into the “Team Name” field. You still register individually even if you are on a team.
Can I wear a costume?
Yes! We encourage our participants to dress up for the race in Irish and shamrock-themed costumes. We’ve seen some great ones over the years! There will be a contest for the best costume following the race at the Finish Line Party under the shelter of the Fifth Third Bank Pavilion at Cheapside Park. Make sure to choose a costume that you can move freely in without tripping or endangering yourself or other runners around you.
Are strollers allowed in the race?
Strollers are allowed in the race, but we ask that you start the race in the Stroller/Walker/Shuffler section at the back of the start. You will be chip timed, so it will not affect your race results. Children who are not registered for the race will need to remain in their stroller for the duration of the race.
What chip timing system is used?
The Shamrock Shuffle 3K uses the ChronoTrack Timing System through a disposable ChronoTrack B-Tag. The B-Tag will come already mounted on the back of your race bib, and requires no special pre- or post- race handling. Race Timing and Runners Services are performed by Super Race Systems.
Are walkers welcome?
Yes! We love walkers, shufflers and runners.
What is the race route?
The course starts near the intersection of Vine Street and Upper Street and follows a flat course out Vine Street to Midland Avenue. The course turns around at the 1 mile mark on Midland Avenue and continues back into downtown via Main Street. The finish line is at the intersection of Main Street and Upper Street. The course will be closed to traffic. View the certified course map here.
Can I wear headphones during the race?
We believe that using an audio device will compromise your safety and that of others. If wearing an audio device results in your being unable to hear verbal instructions or commands, or approaching vehicles or course marshalls, you may be asked to relinquish the device. We ask that you take responsibility and use good judgment if you opt to wear an audio device.
